Eric Rohmann

Author/Illustrator

Eric Rohmann is an author/illustrator of many books for children and in 2004 won the prestigious Caldecott Medal for My Friend Rabbit (Roaring Brook/Macmillan, 2003).  He was previously awarded a Caldecott Honor for his book, Time Flies (Crown/Random House, 1995).  His other books include the ALA Notable titles, Clara and Asha (Roaring Brook/Macmillan, 2005), A Kitten Tale (Knopf/ Random House 2008,) and Bone Dog  (Roaring Brook/Macmillan, 2011). He has also illustrated many other books, including Last Song, based on a poem by James Guthrie, and Oh, No! (2013); Bulldozer’s Big Day (2015), Strongheart (2017) and the Sibert Honor winning Giant Squid (2016), the Sibert medal book Honeybee (2019), and this year Mine! (2023) and Penny and Pip (2023), all written by Candace Fleming; and has created book jackets for a number of novels, including the His Dark Materials, trilogy by Philip Pullman, Bless This Mouse by Lois Lowry and Once Upon a Camel by, Kathy Apelt.  And the upcoming covers for new editions of Phyllis Reynolds Naylor’s Shiloh novel.  His artwork has been featured in various exhibitions and in permanent collections throughout the United States.

He lives in a little house just outside of Chicago with the writer Candace Fleming and cat and a tarantula.  They all seem to get along just fine.
