July First Lines

Write the first line of a new novel every single day!

This July, write the first line of a new book every day.

You might choose to have a 'day of rest' and that's okay.

The goal?

End up with 26-31 new novel starts.

Usually we just write that first line and it takes a sentence or two and we're done for the day.

You can still do that, but if you want to join me in this new idea of First Lines, please do. Here's what I'm thinking.

Give yourself plenty of space to write--maybe an entire sheet of paper.

Write by hand, not on the computer.

Write that first line and see if you're compelled to keep going. Fill the page if you want. 

Now answer these questions: 

• What does the character want?

• What emotions am I feeling as I write?

• Am I excited about this?

• Now list several ideas of what could happen next.
