A Letter from Carol Lynch Williams, Conference Director
Can you believe it? Another year has passed and it’s time to consider Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers as the go-to conference to get your picture book or novel (or both!) ready for submission.
Can you also believe we are in our 15th year? Fifteen! How can that be?
Over the last decade and a half of running an excellent conference, we’ve seen many people find success: Multiple book contracts, New York Times Best Sellers, we even have an Edgar Award Winner. WIFYR helped marvelous writers get the step up they needed to find agents and editors. To write better books. To know how to strive to publish.
This year will be just as helpful, will set people on the path to publication, will teach us to be better, stronger, cleaner writers.
Our number one goal? Help you become the best writer you can become. Yes, publication is important and we want that. Nothing is more exciting than finding out an attendee has sold a book or gotten an agent, or both! But our number one goal has always been to teach people to write well. This conference is like a mini-MFA—at a fraction of the cost—with the goal of publication becoming a reality for more and more who attend.
So look over the website. Let us know if you have questions. Join us this year if you can. Stay for a mini-workshop or the afternoons or be a part of a morning class. You’ll never be the same again. You’ll leave exhausted, changed, determined. Ready to create.
We’re excited to share these adventures with you—your dream of becoming the best writer you can become—your dream of getting published.
