Writing is a Challenge. Here’s Another One: Fitness Challenge.

As if writing isn’t a big enough challenge, here’s another one for you. A fitness challenge. But wait, you say, what’s a fitness challenge doing on a writing blog? Well, I say, what better place for it? Here’s why.

Writing is a sedentary activity. Sometimes we need a good kick in the pants to get us up and moving. If we’re in good physical health, our brains will work better, too. And our fingers.

Also, writing is a solitary activity. Sometimes it’s refreshing to peek up from the world on the page and gather, either literally or virtually, with others who share our passion for books and writing. WIFYR is one way to do that. And so is this fitness challenge.

Initiated by Jennifer Nielsen, WIFYR’s 2015 keynote speaker, this challenge pits published authors against one another for the chance to win a signed book from all participating authors. The winning author will, in turn, give those books to a reader or friend who has also participated in the challenge in a way of the author’s choosing.

Here’s how it works.

1. The contest begins on January 14th and ends at midnight on February 13th, 2015.

2. Each Wednesday, authors post to the Author Workout Facebook group their total points for the following categories. These are daily points:

     A. 1 POINT = 7 hours of sleep

     B. 1 POINT = Exercising 30 minutes or 2 POINTS = Exercising 60 minutes

     C. 1 POINT = At least five servings of fruits and/or vegetables

     D. 1 POINT = Drinking at least 8 cups of water

     E. 1 POINT = No junk food (candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, salty snacks, soda, etc)

Total possible daily points = 6. Total possible weekly points = 42

3. The author with the greatest number of points at the end of the contest wins books from all other participants, on behalf of one of their readers/friends.

4.  In the event of a tie, the winner will be drawn at random.

Find the group Author Workout on Facebook for more details. Cheer on your favorite author and get involved yourself. If you’d like a chance at winning books from all authors involved, find my group page on Facebook and let me know you want to be on my team.  Or let any of the other participating authors know on the Author Workout page
